About me

Career

I am a mathematical modeller and software developer. Currently working as software developer and mathematical modeller at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) creating computational models of anatomical structures since 2025.

I love applying my mathematical knowledge to the life sciences, from physiology to anatomy and epidemiology. A passion which I obtained while doing my Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics at the Instituto Técnologico Autónomo de México. (ITAM) (2015-2021). I particularly enjoy looking at these systems through the lenses of dynamical systems, thanks in part to my undergrad supervisor Victor Francisco Breña Medina.

The next step of my journey took me all the way to the other side of the world to Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland in New Zealand where I had the opportunity to study the mathematical modelling of Ca2+ oscillations in cells under the tutelage of Vivien Kirk and James Sneyd. Which resulted in a series of three publications which you can ready more about here.

I have always enjoyed mathematics, but I am a firm believer that they excel most when taken out into the field and used to help questions beyond the abstract realm. So far I have had the fortune of working in chemistry, physiology and (most recently) anatomy, and I hope that in the future I can expand my skill set to encompass many other fields.

Personal life

Aside from mathematics, my passion is history in all its varieties and flavours. I believe that understanding the past and the lives of those that came before us can only enrich our current understanding of the world. And at the same time give us a glimpse into completely different ways of living and experiencing the world. When it comes to modelling, the context is intrinsically tied to the question one is trying to answer.

I believe in the power of local community organisations, not only as a provider or services and resources, but also as a way to connect with the place one lives in. I spend some of my spare time volunteering for the Auckland Library of Tools. It is an incredible organisation with a very noble goal! I also volunteer for the Auckland Zoo as a visitor assistant, doing a little bit to aid their conservation efforts.
